Aerosol particle formation in the upper residual layer

چکیده
Abstract. According to current estimates, atmospheric new particle formation (NPF) produces a large fraction of aerosol particles and cloud condensation nuclei in the Earth's atmosphere, which have implications for health climate. Despite recent advances, NPF is still insufficiently understood lower troposphere, especially above mixed layer (ML). This paper presents results from co-located airborne ground-based measurements boreal forest environment, showing that many events (∼42 %) appear start topmost part residual (RL). The freshly formed may be entrained into growing (ML) where they continue grow size, similar within ML. suggest upper RL has an important contribution load boundary (BL).

Observations of turbulence - induced new particle formation in the residual layer
Aerosol particle measurements in the atmospheric boundary layer performed by a helicopter-borne measurement payload and by a lidar system from a case study during the IMPACT field campaign in Cabauw (NL) are presented. Layers of increased number concentrations of ultrafine particles were observed in the residual layer, indicating relatively recent new-particle formation. These layers were chara...
متن کاملParticle Simulation of Skin Basal Layer Formation
There has been increasing concern regarding the cosmetic aspects of skin in recent years. Computational simulation can be useful in understanding the mechanism underlying skin formation. The bottom of the epidermis is called the basal layer and is very undulation. In this study, we focus on the basal layer formation. We created a particle model, which forms an undulation basal layer and regener...
متن کاملParticle phase acidity and oligomer formation in secondary organic aerosol.
A series of controlled laboratory experiments are carried out in dual Teflon chambers to examine the presence of oligomers in secondary organic aerosols (SOA) from hydrocarbon ozonolysis as well as to explore the effect of particle phase acidity on SOA formation. In all seven hydrocarbon systems studied (i.e., alpha-pinene, cyclohexene, 1-methyl cyclopentene, cycloheptene, 1-methyl cyclohexene,...
متن کاملCharacteristics of aerosol and cloud particle size distributions in the tropical tropopause layer measured with optical particle counter and lidar
An optical particle counter (OPC) is used in conjunction with lidar measurements to examine the characteristics of the particle size distribution in cirrus cloud in the tropical tropopause layer (TTL) over Thailand where the TTL is defined as the height at which temperature is lower than −75◦C in this paper. Of 11 OPC launches, cirrus cloud was detected at 10–15 km high on 7 occasions, cirrus w...
متن کاملEnhanced upper tropical tropospheric COS: impact on the stratospheric aerosol layer.
Carbonyl sulfide (COS) is considered to be a major source of the stratospheric sulfate aerosol during periods of volcanic quiescence. We measured COS at the tropical tropopause and find mixing ratios to be 20 to 50% larger than are assumed in models. The enhanced COS levels are correlated with high concentrations of biomass-burning pollutants like carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen cyanide (HCN)...
